FIRST THOUGHT

Pebble Beach Golf Links has been in the multiple course rotation at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am since 1947, making it the second-longest running host venue (non-major) on the PGA Tour behind Colonial Country Club (1946), host of the Charles Schwab Challenge. Also, AT&T joined as the tournament's title sponsor in 1986, making it the second- longest title sponsor behind Honda (The Honda Classic, 1982).

> Question of the Week: Do you believe the PGA Tour's best players should be supporting this week's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am instead of playing in the Saudi International?
Send replies on this question or other topics to shall@morningread.com. To be considered for publication, your response must include first and last name, along with city and state of residence. Read last week's responses.

FACT OF THE DAY
DID YOU KNOW?
Michigan has 120 public golf courses in micropolitan areas, only second to Ohio with 152 public courses. The combined public / private mix for these areas is 87% public and 13% private. This highlights strong public golf culture in these states and in the Midwest region in general.

Note: A micropolitan area, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, contains an urban core between 10,000 and 50,000 people, and includes counties with a strong economic and social tie to the urban core.

"I couldn't tell you exactly what I like about golf. Just when you think you've got it mastered it lets you know you haven't. I'm just crazy enough to do it."
