Golf Pride

FIRST THOUGHT

Masters viewers on Sunday knew how good Rory McIlroy's leaderboard-climbing bogey-free 64 was, but how good was it in the context of 86 editions of the Masters? Greg Norman's 64 in 1986 was 8.96 strokes better than the field average, Bo Van Pelt's 64 in 2021 was 8.87 strokes better, and McIlroy's 64 was 8.40 strokes better.
