According to the National Golf Foundation, new course openings (approximately 200) have been sparse in the past decade. That, however, is not an indication of a struggling industry. From a 2020 survey, the NGF reports that a high percentage (80% public, 85% private) of courses underwent course improvements or renovations during the five years prior. Also, an estimated $9 billion has been invested into upgrades and enhancements over the past five years, demonstrating that courses are not withering up and going away.
