FIRST THOUGHT

While winning the John Deere Classic is first and foremost the goal of everyone in the field this week, there is a bit more on the line. This week's tournament is one of five in the 2021-22 PGA Tour season that is part of the Open Qualifying Series. The top three players not otherwise exempt in the top 10 and ties will qualify for the 150th British Open next month. The first OQS event this season was the Arnold Palmer Invitational (Chris Kirk and Talor Gooch qualified), followed by the RBC Canadian Open (Wyndham Clark, Keith Mitchell). Next week, spots will be available at the Scottish Open and Barbasol Championship.
