FIRST THOUGHT

The beauty of sport is sometimes finding that statistical nugget that sort of blows your mind. Such as this one: In 1900, J.H. Taylor led the British Open wire-to-wire to win by eight strokes over Harry Vardon. By today's standards his rounds of 79, 77, 78, 75 would not sniff a Claret Jug, but back then each score was the lowest for that particular round. No golfer since, in any major, has repeated that feat.
