FIRST THOUGHT

To advance to the second round of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup Playoffs, the objective is quite simple — make the top 50 at this week's FedEx St. Jude Championship. That means, however, that 20 players from the 70-player field will see their season end come Sunday. Here is a short list of prominent names who currently sit at Nos. 51 through 70 in the point standings and the minimum finish needed to crack the top 50: No. 51 Harris English (solo 69th), No. 55 Justin Rose (two-way T31), No. 57 Viktor Hovland (solo 27th), No. 63 Jordan Spieth (two-way T17), Nick Dunlap (two-way T10) and No. 70 Viktor Perez (two-way T8).
