In most any other season, this week’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship would be considered an opposite-field event, meaning it’s overshadowed by a tournament played on the same week and with a bit more gravitas. And winning doesn’t come with all the perks. In this instance, the World Golf Championship-HSBC Champions in Shanghai would have been that tournament, but it was canceled due to COVID. That means Bermuda is getting an upgrade. Normally, the winner in Bermuda receives a nice payday and a two-year exemption on Tour. This year, though, the winner also receives a trip to the Masters.

Chris Somerton is head of golf for Lyle & Scott, a U.K.-based apparel brand that was founded in 1874 and became a disruptive force in golf in the mid-1950s with its innovative patterns and prints. In September, Lyle & Scott launched its brand in the United States. Somerton talks about his role and giving employees the space to do their job, while trying to minimize their obstacles.
