FIRST THOUGHT

When second-round play was suspended due to darkness Thursday night at the Farmers Insurance Open, Lanto Griffin and Ludvig Aberg were tied for the lead at 6-under par. But the bigger story may be amateur Luke Clanton, sitting tied for seventh with two holes left in his second round. Clanton, the Florida State golfer who is ranked No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and tied for 41st at the 2024 U.S. Open, has made 11 birdies through 34 holes this week. It's the second most total by any player other Danny Walker's 12, but unfortunately Clanton also owns eight bogeys to sit at 3-under par.
