FIRST THOUGHT

The calendar is correct, it is Wednesday. So if you're hoping to catch the opening round of the Farmers Insurance Open, today is the day — not tomorrow. The tournament has shifted to a Wednesday start so that the third and final rounds can be televised by CBS in prime time — 8 p.m. ET — on the East Coast. The scheduled Saturday finish is the first on the PGA Tour since the 1996 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
