FIRST THOUGHT

In the wake of the carnage left by the PGA Tour’s last two stops — the Honda Classic and the Arnold Palmer Invitational — the world’s best players are left with hardly a day off to calm their frazzled minds. Now, they must face TPC Sawgrass, site of this week’s Players Championship, which has its own set of mental and physical challenges. Fortunately for the players — and not necessarily for the rest of us — showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast until Sunday. So, the Stadium Course might not have as much fire as PGA National or Bay Hill. However, Saturday’s outlook is for temperatures falling to 55 during the day with winds of 20-30 mph. No rest for the weary.

Editor's Note: If you like what you've been reading in The First Call each Monday through Friday, then you can also add Saturday to your list. We have launched The First Call | Weekend Edition for free on Substack. The weekender is a recap of the industry's happenings and also gets you in a weekend frame of mind. And, like The First Call, it's emailed directly to your inbox. So check it out here.

> Question of the Week: In your opinion, is the Players Championship on par with a major championship in terms of field and prestige?
