FIRST THOUGHT

Nelly Korda enjoyed a banner 2024. She won seven times, including a stretch of five straight; she won a major; she returned to No. 1 in the world; and the was named the LPGA Player of the Year. That magnificent calendar year included winning the Chevron Championship. Thursday, at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas, Korda played like it was 2024. She posted a bogey-free 7-under 65 to open a two-shot first-round lead at the Chevron Championship. The key for the 27-year-old was her 4-under play on the par-5 holes. In her two combined major titles, Korda is 21-under par on the par-5 holes.
