SCOTTISH OPEN TALKING POINTS
➡️ Reigning champion Chris Gotterup seeks to become the first player to successfully defend his title at the Scottish Open. Gotterup enters the week on a dominant run after capturing his third victory of the season at last week's John Deere Classic. The win moved the third-year player to No. 7 in the world.
➡️ World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler arrives at The Renaissance Club holding the PGA Tour's longest active streak of 78 consecutive made cuts. He also holds 35 straight top-25 finishes, the second most in the past 40 years behind Tiger Woods. Scheffler leads the tour in top-10 finishes, scoring average and greens in regulation percentage this season.
➡️ Rory McIlroy returns to action for the first time since the U.S. Open, looking to build on an exceptional track record at the Scottish Open. The 2023 champion has finished inside the top five in his last three tournament appearances. A victory this week would make the world No. 2 the first player to win the Masters and Scottish Open in the same season.
➡️ PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai returns to The Renaissance Club, the site of his breakthrough DP World Tour victory in 2020. The Englishman is making his ninth consecutive start at the event and enters the week ranked No. 16 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Rai owns two PGA Tour victories, including his major triumph earlier this season.
➡️ The Scottish Open represents the final event of The Open Qualifying Series, offering three coveted spots into next week's 154th Open at Royal Birkdale Golf Club. The top three players who make the cut and are not otherwise exempt will earn entry. This week's tournament marks the fifth consecutive year the event is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour
