FIRST THOUGHT

There really is little solace Rory McIlroy can take from this year's major season, a year in which he won none of the four and yet finished second, eighth, fifth and third. He was one of nine players to make te cut in each and was an aggregate 29 under par, eight strokes better than Will Zalatoris. Then there is this boggler of a stat: McIlroy tied or beat 97.5% of the golfers he faced.
