FIRST THOUGHT

The 2024 Paris Olympics are the fifth that have featured golf and the United States has dominated the medal count. The Olympics first featured golf in 1900 and 1904, then resumed in 2016 and 2020. In that time, the U.S. has won 14 combined men's and women's medals — six gold, three silver and five bronze. That total, which increased by one with American Scottie Scheffler winning gold on Sunday, equals the combined number of the other nine countries to have won a medal in golf. Great Britain is second in the medal chase with four, while Japan and New Zealand have won two each.
