Advantage Scottie Scheffler?

Player of the Year honors appeared to be nip and tuck between Scheffler and Xander Schauffele based on The First Call reader sentiment — and then Scheffler won Olympic gold

Question of the week [July 22-28]: What are your thoughts on Keegan Bradley being named the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain?

Is waiting until Sunday to answer considered cheating? After winning gold, the choice has to be Scheffler.

Xander Schauffele. Majors are what the best players say they play for these days.

I cheated and waited until the Olympic golf was decided. Because Scottie Scheffler did win the Masters, I was leaning Scheffler. Then his fifth gear kicked in Sunday and the gold medal sealed it.

Xander Schauffele will always be revered, especially for winning two majors in the same year — which is harder today — and his Olympian gold status from 2020.

My vote is for Scottie Scheffler. Winning six tournaments is a big deal. Winning successive tournaments is an unusual feat. Scottie has also broken records in the past year that have stood for a while.

I think Scottie Scheffler deserves the honor for his consistent good play throughout the year.

I cast my vote for Scottie Scheffler. The Masters win plus six other titles is without question, indicative of consistently high quality play over a relatively long period of time. I’m happy for Xander’s success, but Scottie’s light is shining brighter in my opinion.

Scottie Scheffler wins Player of the Year 52-48 over Xander Schauffele. No one else is considered, but Nick Dunlap gets Rookie of the Year hands down.

They are both deserving of this achievement, but only one can win. The X-man (Schauffele) has two majors, has played some solid golf all year, almost winning several other times.

However, I must vote for Scottie with six wins. It's just so hard to win on the Tour and to do it six times, well that is special. He has a major, the Players (one of the strongest fields), Arnold Palmer Invitational (another strong field that plays like a major) and the Memorial (which did play like a major).

Again, both deserving, but I go with Scottie.
