The FedEx Cup Playoffs changed from a four-tournament series to three in 2019, with the BMW Championship moving up to the second event. Since then, an average of 5.33 players per year have entered the first playoff event outside the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings and gone on to qualify for the BMW Championship — 4 in 2019, 6 in 2020, 6 in 2021. Harry Higgs and Alex Noren both did so in 2020 and 2021.
