FIRST THOUGHT

Once is good, but Patrick Cantlay found out on Sunday that twice is awfully nice. The 30-year-old won the BMW Championship title, the penultimate event in the FedEx Cup playoffs, and by doing so he became the first player to successfully defend a playoffs event. But the win also moves Cantlay to No. 2 in the standings going into next week's Tour Championship where he has an opportunity to pull off a second first — the first to win successive FedEx Cup titles.
