In 2022, keeping pace with last year's golf retail boom was going to be a lot to ask. Seven months into the year, though, the golf retail is holding its own, according to Golf Datatech. Equipment sales for the year are only 4.7% less than in 2022, and are 40.3% ahead of 2019 pre-pandemic totals.

Awarded: By the USGA and R&A, Keita Nakajima, of Japan, the Mark H McCormack Medal as the leading men’s player in the 2022 World Amateur Golf Ranking. Nakajima, who has been the No. 1 player in the WAGR for a record 83 weeks, is the first male player to receive the McCormack Medal twice. He also receives exemption into 2023 U.S. Open and British Open.

Extended: By Sentry, its sponsorship of the PGA Tour's Tournament of Champions through 2035. Sentry has served as title sponsor since 2018. The tournament will kick off the 2023 portion of the season at The Plantation Course at Kapalua, Jan. 2-8, and feature a purse of $15 million, up from $8.2 million in 2022. The event will then lead off 2024 when the PGA Tour transitions back to a calendar-year season.
