➡️ The 51st Walker Cup Match tees off Saturday at Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland, featuring top male amateur golfers from the United States against Great Britain and Ireland. Played over two days, the competition includes eight foursomes and 18 singles matches. The USA leads the all-time series 40-9-1 and needs 13 points to retain the cup, while GB&I requires 13.5 points to reclaim it.
➡️ World No. 1 amateur Preston Stout leads a stacked USA Team into Lahinch after winning the 2026 NCAA Division I individual title at Oklahoma State. Stout, the Mark H. McCormack Medal recipient, is making his second Walker Cup appearance after posting a 2-2 record in 2025. The USA roster features nine of the top 12 players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, including world No. 2 Tyler Watts.
➡️ Newly crowned U.S. Amateur champion Jack Whaley headlines the Great Britain and Ireland squad after defeating USA team member Jay Leng Jr. at Merion Golf Club. Whaley, a Florida State senior, joins Seminoles teammate Tyler Weaver — the top-ranked GB&I player at No. 3 in the world — and Luke Poulter. Captain Dean Robertson leads a GB&I roster seeking its first Walker Cup victory since 2015.
➡️ Mid-amateur veteran Stewart Hagestad is set to compete in his sixth Walker Cup Match for Team USA, carrying a dominant 7-1 career record in singles play. The 35-year-old three-time U.S. Mid-Amateur champion has been part of five winning American teams since 2017. Hagestad serves as the elder statesman for a youthful U.S. roster that includes 17-year-old phenom Miles Russell, the youngest player in the field.
➡️ The 2026 competition marks a structural shift for the Walker Cup as the biennial match transitions to even-numbered years. Following this weekend’s match at Lahinch, the 52nd Walker Cup will take place in 2028 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon. Television coverage will feature 18 hours of live network broadcasts on Golf Channel across four sessions of morning foursomes and afternoon singles matches.
