FIRST THOUGHT

The 19th Solheim Cup opens Friday morning at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia, with the playing of foursomes matches. Last year, the United States, despite a 14-14 tie at week's end, outscored Europe (6-2) in the foursomes format for the first time since a 4-4 tie in 2009. In the six Solheim Cups in between, Europe outscored the Americans 27.7-20.5 and won four of the six matches.
