FIRST THOUGHT

Aside from the final 15-13 result in Europe's favor, here are a few numbers of note:
▪️ Europe won just one singles match on Sunday, which is the lowest such total since 1959 when Great Britain managed just one singles win. It is the lowest total in years in which there were 12 singles matches.
▪️ The United States earned 8.5 points in singles, matching the highest total during the era of 12 singles matches.
▪️ This was the closest Ryder Cup since 2012 when Europe won 14.5-13.5 at Medinah. Each of the last five Ryder Cups entering this year were decided by at least five points.
▪️ Europe has won 11 of the last 15 Ryder Cups.
▪️ A player was withdrawn from a Ryder Cup singles match three times since 1979, thereby invoking "the Envelope Rule" — 1979, Mark James (shoulder injury) vs. Gil Morgan; 1991, Steve Pate (injured ribs in minor car accident) vs. David Gilford; 1993, Sam Torrance (infected toe) vs. Lanny Wadkins.
