Earlier this week, Major League Baseball announced that it was going to improve housing policies for all levels of the Minor Leagues starting in 2022. Last week on the 'Full Send' podcast, Bryson DeChambeau spoke about how players No. 165 and lower on the PGA Tour money list — and on the Korn Ferry Tour — were operating at a loss for the year. In 2021, $488,887 is what No. 165, Will Gordon, made. Only six players on the Korn Ferry Tour made more than Gordon. While professional golfers are independent contractors, perhaps it's time for the PGA Tour to consider some type of similar arrangement to ease the financial burdens for up-and-comers.

The First Call: In one sentence, describe what you do for a living. Steve DeWalle: I lead a wonderful team of people and help them run a company that provides products to the golf industry and beyond. TFC: What time do you wake in the morning, and what time do you typically start the workday? SD: I'm up between 4:30 and 5 a.m., and in the shop prepping for the day by 5:45 to 6 a.m. I like to get in early and enjoy a few hours of quiet before everyone starts showing up. TFC: What are key elements to leadership or to being a good leader? SD: Identifying each team member's strengths and understanding what type of support and encouragement they need to grow into their roles and develop professionally and personally. TFC: What's the secret to your success? SD: Never stop working hard, never stop learning and never stop evolving. TFC: What’s on your playlist? SD: I listen to both types of music, the Grateful Dead and the Jerry Garcia Band. |
