If two trends continue on the PGA Tour and at the WM Phoenix Open, then expect a multiple-time Tour winner to claim the title in a playoff. Here's why: The respective winners of the Tour's first five tournaments of 2024 have multiple victories —
(Hideki Matsuyama, 11, The Sentry; Nick Taylor, 5, Sony Open; Sepp Straka, 3, The American Express; Harris English, 5, Farmers Insurance Open; and Rory McIlroy, 27, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am) — and six of the last nine WMPOs at TPC Scottsdale have been decided by a playoff.
