FIRST THOUGHT

Valspar Championship takeaways:
▪️ Matt Fitzpatrick did not have to wait long to shake the disappointment of not winning last week's Players Championship. Fitzpatrick shot a final-round 3-under 68 — his third such round of the week — to finish at 11-under 273 and win by one stroke over David Lipsky.
▪️ Fitzpatrick, 31, birdied the 72nd hole to win by one stroke for his third PGA Tour title. It was the first time in 11 previous Valspar Championship rounds that Fitzpatrick birdied the hole.
▪️ Fitzpatrick played bogey free for his last 36 holes, and became the third winner of this event to record a bogey-free final round — Luke Donald (2012) and Kevin Streelman (2013).
▪️ Lipsky was seeking his first PGA Tour title in his 145th start. Six players have earned their first Tour victory at the Valspar Championship, the most recent being Taylor Moore in 2023.
▪️ 54-hole leader Sungjae Im, who tied for fourth, carded a 3-over 74 to finish three strokes back of Fitzpatrick. No player who has held or shared the 54-hole lead during the four Florida Swing tournaments this season has gone on to win.
