The goal of any major championship is to identify the world's best player and that's certainly been the case of late, according to The Forecaddie, which points out the following:
> Four of the past five majors have been won by players ranked No. 1 (Scottie Scheffler, 2024 Masters), No. 2 (Rory McIlroy, 2025 Masters); or No. 3 (Xander Schauffele at the 2024 Open and PGA).
> Over the past 40 major championships (2015 Masters to 2025 Masters) and only once has a player outside the top 50 triumphed — Phil Mickelson, who ranked 115th when he won the 2021 PGA.
> Of the 15 majors since Mickelson’s 2021 triumph, 11 have been won by top-20 players — not including Bryson DeChambeau (2024 U.S. Open) and Brooks Koepka (2023 PGA) who were ranked 38th and 44th, respectively, because the OWGR was not awarding points to LIV Golf players, thus their respective slides.
