2025 PGA Championship: Just how will it play out?

Readers of The First Call offer their crystal ball as to what may be in store for this week's major at Quail Hollow Club.

Question of the week [May 5-11]: All things 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club: What are your expectations? Your thoughts on the site? Memories of 2017? Rory McIlroy's chances for the calendar Grand Slam? Favorites, dark horses?

It has probably been quite a while when so many good players are playing well going into a major. So here is my wish as they tee off Sunday afternoon:
1:30 p.m. tee time: Brooks Koepka and Ludvig Aberg
1:40 p.m. tee time: Xander Schauffele and Jordan Speith
1:50 p.m. tee time: Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau
2:00 p.m. tee time: Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy
My wish: Speith wins by one (would be great for golf)
My pick: Scheffler wins by one as McIlroy and Schauffele drive it in the creek or heavy left rough on 18 and can’t make par.

The best championship in golf for many reasons — not limited to field, courses, fan venue and hospitality. My all-time fave is still Walter Hagan, a hometown guy from Rochester, New York. The CC of Rochester is still his place — just walk in the front lobby.

It's great that the 20 PGA Professional guys get to play. Remember Michael Block shook the golf world in 2023 at Oak Hill.

I think Rory McIlroy has a very strong chance to get the Grand Slam. He is playing brilliant right now and learned a lot in his Masters win.

Quail Hollow Club will be a great test of golf.

My dark horse would be Jon Rahm.

Oak Hill in 2027!!
