U.S. Women's Open Talking Points
➡️ Jennifer Kupcho grabbed the opening-round lead at the U.S. Women's Open by shooting a 5-under 66 at Riviera Country Club. It represents the first time in 29 U.S. Women's Open rounds that the Colorado native has broken 70.
➡️ Sei Young Kim holds second place alone after carding a 4-under 67. This round snapped her active streak of 43 consecutive major championship rounds where she finished with a score of 70 or higher before Thursday.
➡️ Former champion Minjee Lee secured a 2-under 69, producing the only bogey-free performance of the opening round. Additionally, seven major winners currently sit inside the top 10, marking the highest total at this stage since 2014.
➡️ Three amateurs — Aphrodite Deng, Paula Francisco Liano and Maria Jose Marin — shot 1-under 70 to match a trio feat last achieved at Pebble Beach. The morning wave averaged nearly one stroke better than the afternoon wave.
