FIRST THOUGHT

As Cristobal Del Solar collected birdies Thursday afternoon at the RBC Canadian Open, the possibility of shooting a coveted 59 was increasing. Through 16 holes he had totaled 10 on the par-70 North Course at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley and needed just one more to get into the 50s. But shooting 59 is nothing for Del Solar. The 31-year-old from Chile posted a 13-under 57 at the Korn Ferry Tour's Astara Golf Championship in February 2024. A second sub-60 round, though, would have to wait. Del Solar, known as "Mr. 57," closed par-bogey and settled for a 61 and a share of the first-round lead.
