FIRST THOUGHT

Hard to imagine is Justin Thomas sitting 20th in the Official World Golf Ranking heading into this week's Scottish Open. While there remains a lot of golf to be played in 2023, the last time Thomas finished a year outside the OWGR's top 10 was 2016 when he finished 22nd. Even more pressing for Thomas is his FedEx Cup Playoffs hope. He currently sits 70th in the FedEx Cup standings and, new for the 2022-23 season, only the top 70 through the Wyndham Championship in early August will qualify for the Playoffs. Thomas has finished in the top 10 in the FedEx Cup standings in each of the last six seasons.
