Chris Gotterup had every intention of playing the PGA Tour's Barracuda Championship this week. Instead, by winning the Scottish Open Sunday by two strokes over Rory McIlroy and Marco Penge, the 25-year-old is now headed to the Open Championship and getting a schedule upgrade going forward. While the win was Gotterup's second PGA Tour victory — the first being the 2024 OneFlight Myrtle Beach Classic — this one carries a bit more weight. In addition to getting him into the Open field at Portrush, he will likely receive an invite to the 2026 Masters. Also, Gotterup is expected to move from No. 158 in the Official World Golf Rankings to inside the top 50, and to No. 39 in the FedEx Cup standings. Both those moves should qualify him for PGA Tour Signature Events in 2026 as well, and, in the process, further improve his financial lot.
