Oh man, looking forward to seeing the track (Royal Portrush Golf Club) that I'll be playing in mid-August. What a treat.

I look forward to the 2025 Open Championship for many reasons, especially because we get to "go abroad" for a few days and perhaps get to know new talent emerging from that part of the world.
I enjoy the excellent storytelling vignettes in and out of commercial breaks, and hearing true British accents vs. the South African versions we get most of the year.
Immersing oneself in a unique terrain that is hard to find here in the states — Bandon Dunes being an exception — is exhilarating. This championship is why so many pay so much to fly there, just so these storied links can beat them into submission. It’s even better if you’ve been there because memories of the people, small towns and their countrysides are just as lasting as the courses. The broadcast also makes you feel better about how much you spent on that golfer’s trip of a lifetime.
So the four days are almost like a travel video as we learn more about the history, landmarks and the culture of the hosting region of that nation. Royal Portrush will not disappoint.
The only downsides to me are getting up way too early to watch the morning sheet the first two days, and ducking those who try to text or call in live results while I’m taping play over the weekend so that I can get in a couple of rounds and attend Sunday services.
I’ll never forget in 2009 when my minister announced to the VCR-ing congregation that Stewart Cink had stopped Tom Watson from making history at Turnberry. The pews weren’t as full the next year.

I am a huge outlier in that I prefer to see good weather during the Open Championship as opposed to horrific, cold, windy and rainy conditions. I want to see the Jack Nicklaus vs. Tom Watson "The Duel in the Sun" recreated in 2025 with Rory McIlroy vs. Scottie Scheffler.
To me, the Open is special and unique because it feels like the true "world championship" of golf. It is unmistakably global in scope and reach. It is also very fitting the Open is the final major of the year. A true exclamation point to every golf season in terms of individual play.
I love the fact that in both golf and tennis the majors are truly distinct form one another. For the Open, variable weather, brilliant links golf on world-class venues and plenty of drama make for a very special week of golf and a truly great international golf championship. A golf tournament like no other.
