WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
➡️ Beau Hossler fired a 9-under 61 to take the suspended first-round lead at the Wyndham Championship, marking his second-lowest career round on the PGA Tour. Hossler, who holds the 18-hole lead or co-lead for the sixth time in his career, carded seven birdies and an eagle on the 15th hole. Entering the week at No. 122 in the FedEx Cup standings, Hossler requires a victory to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs. ... Hossler sits third on the list of active players with the most PGA Tour starts without a win (entering this week): Patrick Rodgers (333), Mark Hubbard (282), Hossler (251), Sam Ryder (241, not in the field this week), Zac Blair (237) and Denny McCarthy (233)
➡️ In his tournament debut, Ben James, the No. 1 player in the PGA Tour University Ranking, shot a career-best 18-hole score with an 8-under 62. It marks the first time as a professional making two eagles in one round (Nos. 5 and 15). He finished T4 at last month’s Corales Puntacana Championship, his best result on Tour.
➡️ Based on projected standings when play was suspended, first-round leader Beau Hossler would leap from No. 122 to No. 52, which would push rookie Jackson Koivun out of the postseason field from No. 70 to No. 71.
➡️ Sahith Theegala carded an 8-under 62 to sit tied for second place following the opening round. Playing his 500th career round on tour, Theegala tied his longest career birdie streak with six consecutive birdies to open his round en route to a 28 on nine holes.
