FIRST THOUGHT

WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP TAKEAWAYS

➡️ Michael Brennan captured his second PGA Tour victory at the Wyndham Championship, firing a final-round 64 to finish with a career-best 72-hole score of 22-under 258. The 24-year-old former Wake Forest standout vaulted from No. 105 to No. 47 in the FedEx Cup standings to secure his spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Brennan followed 2025 champion Cameron Young as the second consecutive former Demon Deacon economics major to win the event.
➡️ Beau Hossler finished solo second at 19-under par after holding the 18-, 36- and 54-hole lead or co-lead. The result leaves Hossler winless through 252 career PGA Tour starts, keeping him third on the active list for most starts without a victory. Needing a victory to advance to the postseason, Hossler finished No. 72 in the FedEx Cup standings.
➡️ Ben James bounced back from a third-round 72 with a career-low, bogey-free 61 to finish third at 18-under par, securing his best finish in eight professional starts. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Jackson Koivun tied for 29th at 8-under to hold onto the 70th and final playoff spot. Koivun became the first player from the PGA Tour University or PGA Tour University Accelerated program to reach the playoffs in the same season he accepted membership.
➡️ Brennan was the only player to surge into the top 70 of the FedEx Cup standings following the regular-season finale, bumping Steven Fisk out of the postseason after Fisk missed the cut. Matti Schmid finished tied for 72nd to hold onto the No. 69 spot and qualify for the playoffs for a second straight year. The top 70 players now advance to next week's postseason opener at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
