Scottie Scheffler entered this week's Tour Championship as the No. 1 seed, thus started the opening round at 10-under par thanks to the Starting Strokes format first implemented in 2019. He didn't lose the FedEx Cup in the first round, but his 1-over 71 at East Lake Golf Club opened the door for a wild weekend. Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland and Keegan Bradley all passed Scheffler on the leaderboard and share the lead at 10 under, a shot ahead of Scheffler. It's the first time the No. 1 seed did not hold at least a share of the first-round lead since the new format began.

Leaderboard: A USGA-connected social golf app built for on-course games and wager-tracking, launches on the Google Play store. The release makes Leaderboard’s platform, first launched on iOS in summer 2022, available to all US-based golfers. Golfers can invite any of their friends to track any number of group games from the first tee, and add them to golf group chats that feature leaderboards and on-course content. The app also supports stroke-play scorekeeping and stat tracking, along with posting a Handicap Index.
