In the moments after winning the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup, Rory McIlroy encountered Scottie Scheffler's father Scott near the clubhouse. As they were about to share a hug that was equal parts consoling and congratulatory, McIlroy apologized for winning. Nonsense, the elder Scheffler said. But McIlroy did nab the one title that would have made Scheffler's season — which will likely end with him winning the PGA Tour's Player of the Year Award — otherworldly. While Scheffler entered 2022 with zero career wins, he broke out with four wins, including the Masters. He rose to world No. 1. He also totaled nine top-three finishes and 11 top-10 finishes, while amassing over $24 million in earnings and bonuses on Tour. Yes, the FedEx Cup and Tour Championship would have been nice, but you cannot feel too sorry for Scheffler.
