Here are a couple statistical nuggets to mull over in preparation for the 45th Ryder Cup:
▪️ If you add up the results of Ryder Cups since 1979, the Europeans have outscored the Americans, 312-304 — an average points-per-year score of 14.18 to 13.82. Also, there have been 111 sessions contested since 1979 and the Europeans hold a slight edge, 47-43, with 21 ties .
▪️ What does history say about a team so heavy with veterans? Here are the teams that have had none or one rookie since 1979:
1985 Europeans: Won.
1989 Europeans: Tied to retain the cup.
1999 Americans: Won.
2012 Europeans. Won.
2025 Europeans: To be determined.
