New data from Shot Scope may make you feel better about your tee shots. The GPS technology company reports that the average scratch golfer hits 48% of fairways with their driver, while a 25-handicap golfer hits 47%. That’s just a 1% difference in fairways hit between a mid-20 handicap and a potential club champion. Even the average PGA Tour player only hits about 61% of fairways.
So, what’s the key distinction? Distance. Scratch golfers hit the ball around 80 yards longer with the big stick. They find fewer penalty areas, too.
