When word of a merger between the PGA Tour and PIF, the financial backer of LIV Golf, started making the rounds on Tuesday morning, the initial reactions were of shock and skepticism.
A very belated April's Fools Day prank? Fake news?
No, it was real. And reaction was swift. No one was off limits in response to the news.
Awesome day today 😊 https://t.co/qUwVJiydym

How did the CEO of LIV golf Greg Norman not know about this merger??? Crazy
— Hunter Mahan (@HunterMahan) June 6, 2023
If it makes any PGA Tour players feel better, apparently Greg Norman just found out about the merger too.

I am a huge PGA Tour and DP Tour fan, bet on golf every week, backed them 1,000% against the Saudi LIV league, only to have them sell out their own fans and players for Saudi cash. There are very few people or orgs left in the world who put principles over material wealth. Sad.

PGA Tour and DP and LIV tour have reportedly agreed to a merger according to CNBC! Wonder how those who took the "moral high ground" are going to react now? All litigation to be dropped.

Just talked to a key insider at LIV - they had no idea this was coming. There hasn't been any internal communication yet! Players, agents, etc. are learning about the merger from tweets and news reports. Same on the PGA Tour. Cloak-and-dagger stuff from Monahan and the PIF.

"Guys are pissed and how could they not be..
Right now there's a ton of people that would really like to know how Jay Monahan said one thing and did the exact opposite"@notthefakeSVP #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/rZRbA950Vv

There's so much to unpack, but the thing I keep going back to is this:
Rory McIlroy took a stand for what he believed was right—which brought an invisible pain and weight that can't be measured—and was sold out by the very thing he was trying to defend

"I would describe the meeting as intense. Certainly heated." -- Jay Monahan on the state of the players meeting that finished just now.
