Putting Anthony Kim's comeback into context

Winning after a 12-year hiatus is impressive, but The First Call readers believe Ben Hogan's and Tiger Woods' were equal — if not more — to the moment. And there were others.

Question of the week [February 16-22]: Anthony Kim, 40, won LIV Golf Adelaide, his first win since 2010, a period that included a 12-year absence from professional golf. In your opinion, where does that rank among all-time golf comebacks?

Good, but not close to Ben Hogan.

I have Anthony Kim's comeback as tied for first along side Ben Hogan and Tiger Woods. It's a tie given how different each man's injuries were. Hogan was broken by a devastating car accident, while AK's troubles were mental health related. It's hard to compare the two. Tiger Woods comeback to win the Masters better compares to Hogan's situation and I do not consider one comeback superior to the other. All three are inspirational and teach us an individual can overcome great obstacles in life. I am happy for AK. What really impresses me is his appreciation for those who have helped him with his sobriety and how his situation is not simply a sports redemption story, it's a redemption of life story and that is far more important.

Why does this need to be ranked? Happy for him, great accomplishment and hope he continues his good play. I, for one, don't care about ranking one player against another.

Hmm, "all-time" golf comebacks is an interesting criteria due to the fact it doesn't happen very often. As many top players will tell you, "It ain't as easy as it seems, winning is hard at any level." Even if you question the level of the field, after 12 years the win is impressive. Maybe not on the Ben Hogan level, but let's applaud the accomplishment and support the effort it must have taken.

Top five. Ben Hogan is No. 1.

It is likely one of the top three comebacks of all time. Probably slightly behind Ben Hogan and slightly ahead of Tiger Woods. If he wins a major, it will be the best.

Top five.

Although it was a big win for Anthony Kim and a win for LIV, it's marginally on the spectrum of comebacks. TigerWoods had his share. Gary Woodland is in the top five. Add JB Holmes and Eric Compton. Mr. Ben Hogan is leaps and bounds ahead of any in the golf world. For me to give AK his due, we'd have to know more about the 12-year absence, he'd have to do it on a bigger tour and beat more than five ranked players.

Great accomplishment, but against weak competition and can’t compare to winning a full field event on the PGA Tour.

About 199th ... it was LIV Golf for crying out loud.

No.1. Tiger Woods' Masters win, No. 2.

Glad he won, but not very relevant.

No doubt that it was an accomplishment. However, he beat a short, mediocre field.
