Cairo, Egypt (October 16, 2025) – After a 15-year absence, the Egyptian Open returns the world golf stage, October 29 – November 1, 2025. First played in 1921, the new chapter of the Egyptian Open will be contested at Madinaty Golf Club in Cairo and is part of the Asian Development Tour, with a prize fund of $125,000.
With golf participation up 25 percent across Egypt over the past year, Omar Hisham Talaat Moustafa, head of the Egyptian Golf Federation and owner of Madinaty Golf Club, is taking steps to ensure the sport continues to grow and thrive for years to come. The Golf Federation is investing in amateur and professional tournaments, junior golf programs and promoting Egypt as a golf destination, while Hisham’s own company, TMG, has exciting projects on the horizon, including the reimagining of Mena House Golf Course, located in the shadows of the Great Pyramids, under the direction of Robert Trent Jones II Golf Course Architects.

“The ultimate goal is to pave the way for Egyptian players to launch into the global arena,” said Hisham.
“Every tournament gives our players international experience and a better ranking, which brings them closer to participating in the Olympics. We want Egypt’s name to be strongly present on the world golf map.
Golf tourism gives Egypt a unique competitive advantage thanks to our international courses, year-round sun, and unique historical sites,” added Hisham.
The Egyptian Golf Federation and the Arab Golf Federation recently announced a record level of international participation in the upcoming Egyptian Amateur Championship, taking place from 16 to 18 October 2025 at Dreamland Golf Club in Cairo.
In addition to the Egyptian Open and the Egyptian Amateur Championship, the Federation will also launch a new international tournament as part of the Asian Tour, aimed at attracting world-class players.
Earlier this year, the Egyptian Golf Federation hosted the 2025 Pan Arab Junior and Ladies Golf Championship May 7 – 10. The tournament was played at both Madinaty Golf Club and Katameya Dunes Golf Club in Cairo, under the sanctioning of the Arab Golf Federation (AGF). To attract families, youth, and individuals from the community, the event featured the Festival of Golf at Madinaty Golf Club with golf activations, entertainment, live music, and food stations. The Festival drew thousands of interested guests.
Egypt’s golf roots run deep, dating back to the 19th century when the first courses were built by the British.
“We have a legacy of over a century that places us among the oldest countries in the world to have played this sport,” said Hisham.
