True Spec names COO Ryan Richardson as new president

Global leader in club fitting also introduces Allen Gobeski as general manager

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (June 4, 2020) – 8AM Golf is pleased to announce the appointment of Ryan Richardson as President of True Spec Golf, the global leader in custom club fitting and club building.

Since joining True Spec in 2015, Richardson has played a critical role in True Spec’s monumental rise from regional startup to being ranked the #1 club fitter in North America by GOLF Magazine earlier this year. As president, he will continue to grow the brand’s award-winning premium fitting program.

Richardson initially partnered with True Spec as an affiliate owner and operator of True Spec's original Naples studio. In 2017, he joined the executive team in Scottsdale to lead the fulfilment and build teams and, as COO, oversaw the day-to-day operations of more than twenty True Spec studios around the world. As COO, he led the implementation of new systems, acquisitions and vendor relationships that make up the foundation of the True Spec experience.

True Spec Founder Hoyt McGarity will remain CEO of True Spec and President of 8AM Golf, True Spec's holding company.

“This is a pivotal period of growth for True Spec and Ryan has a great vision for how our brand will continue to thrive,” McGarity said. “With Ryan at the helm, True Spec will continue to set the industry standard for the premium fitting experience.”

In his first move as president, Richardson announced the hire of Allen Gobeski as True Spec General Manager. Gobeski has been a trailblazer in the equipment industry and has worked at almost every level of the end-to-end fitting and building process; including as the general manager of Cool Clubs. As a longtime member of the PGA of America, Gobeski has developed a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and well-connected professionals in the golf industry.

Gobeski will manage True Spec’s 25,000 square-foot Build Shop and will help lead the Mobile and Referral Programs from True Spec headquarters in Scottsdale.

“As a competitor, I’ve watched as True Spec consistently finds ways to improve the fitting process and I feel that, from soup to nuts, the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of equipment performance is with True Spec,” Gobeski said. “I am thrilled to join the team and push the creative limits of the customer experience.”

Using its proprietary fitting process, brand-agnostic fitting matrix and state-of-the-art swing assessment technology, True Spec has serviced more than 35,000 golfers since it was founded in 2014. The brand has continued to expand in 2020, having already opened up four new studios in Dallas, Denver, Palm Desert and Tampa Bay, and several more are scheduled to open in the near future.

“Our mission at True Spec is to provide every golfer with a club fitting experience that maximizes their performance, and our brand’s growth is a reflection of the award-winning value we bring to every customer -- from beginners to tour professionals,” Richardson said. “I look forward to leading the True Spec team in a new capacity and taking our brand to new heights.”
