BRANSON, MISSOURI, June 10, 2020 – With all Branson Golf courses open and the summer solstice on the horizon, the destination is in full swing, including the state amateur at Ozarks National and appealing packages at many of the 10 diverse yet complementary playing venues.
Men’s State Amateur Championship
The event will be played June 22-28 at Ozarks National, the astounding Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw design that garnered “2019 Best New Public Course in the US” distinction from Golf Digest when it opened last year. Open to spectators, it features the largest field ever in a Missouri Golf Association competition (172 players). Stroke playing qualifying begins on June 23-24, with match play rounds on Thursday through Sunday (when the final two players compete over 36 holes for the title).
J.P. Morris (son of Bass Pro Shops and Big Cedar Lodge Founder Johnny Morris) qualified and is competing in the event at his “home” course. An interesting side note is that, Joey Johnson, the assistant golf professional at Ozarks National (not competing in this year’s championship), is a two-time Missouri Amateur Champion (2013, 2014). He nearly won a third straight title in 2015 (at Tom Fazio designed Buffalo Ridge at Big Cedar) but fell in the finals.
