GCSAA to sponsor inaugural African American Golf Expo

First Green program will be part of the EXPO’s education lineup

Lawrence, Kan. (Sept. 22, 2020) – The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) is supporting the first-ever African American Golf EXPO and Forum as a Tournament Sponsor.

The event is scheduled to take place Feb. 20-23, 2021, at the Marietta Hotel and Conference Center in Atlanta and will bring together community leaders, golf enthusiasts and professionals working within the golf community to promote economic inclusion and diversity in the $84 billion industry.

In addition to 20,000 square feet of exhibits, the event will include 20 breakout session workshops that will cover topics from how to select golf clubs to owning a golf course. GCSAA will provide information on its First Green STEM-based education program. First Green introduces the game and profession to students from diverse backgrounds.

“We are proud to be a part of the African American Golf Expo and applaud their efforts in growing the game,” GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans said. “GCSAA’s mission includes advancing the profession and enhancing the growth of the game, and neither of those can be accomplished without embracing diversity and inclusion.”

Jim Beatty, founder and president of Jim Beatty Golf Ventures, organizer of the African American Golf EXPO and Forum and executive editor of African American Golfer's Digest, visited GCSAA’s headquarters in Lawrence, Kan., in August to discuss how the organizations can work together to promote the opportunities available for African Americans in the golf course management profession.

“I am pleased to have the support and involvement of GCSAA. Their participation will positively impact African Americans of all ages. This includes youth, college students and professionals seeking a career in the golf industry. I look forward to GCSAA presenting its programs and other economic opportunities at the EXPO.”
