John Sjoberg has been Emory University's head men’s golf coach following the conclusion of the 2011 season and after three years as the assistant coach. The program has competed in 22 NCAA D-III Championships, six during Sjoberg's tenure as head coach and finished sixth at this year’s National Championship. Following the shortened 2019-2020 season, Sjoberg was recognized for his team’s fine performance with his selection as one of five NCAA Division III finalists for the Dave Williams Award presented by Golf Pride Grips, which recognizes the national coach of the year. It represented the fourth straight year that he reached finalist status for that honor.
“The opportunity to develop a personal relationship with a coach at a competitive Division III program is likely the biggest thing campers will receive. We want them to see the balance of what it takes to thrive as both a student and an athlete at a highly academic institution and that there are coaching staffs, schools and programs completely committed to making our athletes as good as they can be over the course of four years,” Sjoberg says. “While the curriculum is golf-focused, they’ll also see the self-discipline and time management skills it takes to excel at this level.”
Attendees of the Emory Eagles Golf Camp will gain access to Sjoberg’s recruiting tips, learn education habits of Division III collegiate golfers, experience simulated practice round and tournament play, participate in Q&A’s for campers and parents, receive welcome gifts from adidas and more. As a tireless recruiter involved in the preparation and implementation of team practices, training, and competitions, Sjoberg will be an immeasurable resource to campers.
“The more aspiring college golfers make connections with coaches and take the opportunity to pick our brains, the better equipped they’ll be to make quality decisions for their future,” he adds.
CGX Institutional Camps are a tremendous opportunity for young men and women, ages 10-18 to learn from and interact with a particular coach and institution in an immersive, fun, and educational setting. Campers will focus on all areas of instruction with an emphasis on wedge play, engage in simulated collegiate practice and tournament rounds, and learn from seminars and Q&A sessions hosted by coaches.
