Andy Pope to play OnCore Golf’s Vero X1 Tour ball in his fifth U.S. Open appearance

BUFFALO, N.Y., June 16, 2021 - PGA Professional and OnCore Golf Ambassador Andy Pope will play the company’s VERO X1 Tour ball at the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines this week.

Pope has one of the most unique stories in professional golf related to the U.S. Open.  Without a PGA Tour card and while playing on the Web.com and Korn Ferry tours from 2015 to 2019, he nonetheless competed in four U.S. Opens after four times finishing in the top four at these grueling regional qualifiers.

This year marks the third time the OnCore tour ball will be put in play at the U.S. Open.  The ELIXR was used by Michael Herbert in the 2018 tournament at Shinnecock Hills and Pope relied on it in 2019 at Pebble Beach.  It’s the first time the VERO X1 – introduced to rave reviews in July 2020 – will be teed up at the U.S. Open.  The ball has already been played in multiple PGA Tour events including the Honda Classic and Charles Schwab Challenge – both times by Erik Compton.

The 37-year-old Pope, who registered several “Top 25” finishes during the 2020-21 Korn Ferry Tour season while exclusively playing OnCore tour balls, had this to say about his experience thus far:  “The golf ball is arguably one of the most important pieces of equipment in anyone’s golf bag. From a performance standpoint, the OnCore balls’ high moment of inertia and perimeter weighting technology delivers a noticeable and positive impact on ball distance and flight, especially in windy conditions.”

“Andy is the type of player and person who squarely fits the OnCore mold,” says Steve Coulton, Co-Founder and Vice President of OnCore Golf.  “His work ethic, perseverance, and positivity parallel how our company develops golf products which make golfers better players and enhances their enjoyment of the game.”
