Wilson signs LPGA Tour rookie, Sophia Schubert, to its golf advisory staff

Schubert marks the return of an LPGA presence on Wilson’s Golf Advisory Staff

CHICAGO (Jan. 26, 2022) — Wilson Sporting Goods Co. today announced professional golfer Sophia Schubert has joined its Golf Advisory Staff. Schubert is making her LPGA Tour debut this week during the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio in Boca Raton, Fla.

“We are thrilled to have Sophia join the Wilson Golf Advisory Staff,” says Tim Clarke, President, Wilson Golf. “Wilson’s relationship with the women’s game dates back to the start of the LPGA with some legendary hall of famers. Sophia marks Wilson’s return to this history and heritage after decades away from the LPGA, and we look forward to partnering with her as she begins this next chapter.”

Schubert, who turns 26 next week, competed for the Texas Longhorns and became the first Longhorn to win the U.S. Women's Amateur since 1996, when she won in 2017 by defeating the No. 3 ranked amateur player in the world and former Olympian, Albane Valenzuela, in the final.

“It means so much to be part of Wilson Golf, a brand that has so much history. This opportunity is a full circle moment for me as I remember playing Wilson clubs back in high school and college,” said Schubert. “My initial goal was to get on the LPGA and I did that – there’s no stopping now.  I want to win on the LPGA, I want to be on the Solheim Cup team and I want to be the World No. 1. Now that I’ve signed with Wilson and get to play with their clubs, I’m just taking it all in and enjoying this amazing opportunity.”

Schubert made her professional debut at the 2018 Indy Women in Tech Championship on the LPGA Tour and began playing on the Symetra Tour in 2019. Her first professional win came at the 2021 Carolina Golf Classic on the Symetra Tour.

As a Wilson Advisory Staff member, Schubert will provide valuable insights and test future Wilson Golf clubs, balls and accessories. Schubert joins a growing roster of Wilson Golf Advisory Staff members, including PGA TOUR players Gary Woodland, Kevin Streelman, Padraig Harrington, Brendan Steele, Kevin Tway, Kevin Chappell, John Augenstein and Ricky Barnes.

As Wilson continues its expansion in golf, Wilson Sportswear will also be dropping a golf-inspired apparel collection for men and women later this Spring. To follow the latest Wilson Golf news and Wilson Advisory Staff team members, visit @WilsonGolf on social media.
