Barry, Angus, Scotland - Panmure Golf Club, one of Scotland’s oldest and most prestigious golf clubs, has hired U.S. based public relations agency Kevin Frisch PR to manage golf media relations across the U.S. and Canada.
This historic club, located on Scotland’s east coast, just down the road from Carnoustie and 40 minutes from St. Andrews, is welcoming golf vacationers visiting Scotland. Founded in 1845, the world’s 21st oldest golf club is steeped in tradition.

Just prior to the turn of the century, the club moved to its present location in Barry in 1899. The current course was built by the same contractor – R. Duff of Edinburgh – who also constructed the St Andrews New and Muirfield courses, both of which were Old Tom Morris layouts. There have also been changes and modifications to the course over the years, with many of the suggestions coming from James Braid.
Today the course measures 6,551 yards and is a wonderful combination of links and heathland style, featuring a traditional out-and-back routing. Holes play firm and fast on undulating and rolling fairways that meander through areas of dunes and pine trees to fun compact greens that are well-guarded by bunkers. The course is often ranked among Scotland's top 35, with recent rises in the Todays Golfer and National Club Golfer Top 100s.
Panmure Golf Club has been most recognized for its relationship with Ben Hogan. Before he won his only Open Championship at Carnoustie Golf Links in 1953 – his final Major victory – Hogan spent two weeks practicing at Panmure, getting his game acclimated to the terrain of links golf and acquainting himself with the smaller 1.62-inch British golf ball. He also left his mark at the club and on the course. The 414-yard, par-4 6th hole, one of his favorites, is now named after Hogan after he suggested adding the cleverly placed hidden pot bunker to the front right of the green. It is also reported that Hogan mowed the 17th green to his specification for Carnoustie and returned the cleaned mower to the head greenkeeper.
Harry Vardon, Ted Ray, James Braid, Tommy Armour, Henry Cotton, Roberto de Vicenzo, Sandy Lyle and Padraig Harrington are some of the past Open Champions who have played and competed at Panmure Golf Club, while the likes of Gary Player, Nick Faldo and Dustin Johnson have also discovered the historic links course.
Another highlight of the Panmure Golf Club experience is its iconic clubhouse – one of Scotland’s finest old golf buildings. Built in 1899, it was modeled both architecturally and spiritually after the Royal Calcutta Golf Club in India. Many of the original features remain and the Hogan lounge provides visitors the opportunity to view the captain’s silver clubs.
