Flagstaff, Ariz. (July 13, 2023) – Pine Canyon, a private master-planned golf course and residential community in Flagstaff, Ariz., recently unveiled its newest outdoor amenity, The Yard. The Yard is a multi-acre park with a soccer pitch, football field and a Whiffle Ball diamond complete with dugouts and an outfield fence.
Grand opening festivities for The Yard included more than 150 members and featured an ice cream truck and other refreshments, music, games of soccer and corn hole and homerun derbies for juniors and adults. Retired Major League Baseball pitcher Kyle Lohse was on the mound for the Derby, lightheartedly pitching to both junior and adults. Winners took home gold trophies and the title of The Yard’s Home Run Derby Champion.
Camp Pine Canyon, the community’s kid’s camp, will utilize The Yard throughout the summer with massive scavenger hunts on the field, kickball games in the Whiffle Ball field, and water balloon fights on the grass. Junior soccer camps and junior flag rugby camps are also scheduled for this summer at The Yard. For adults, Pine Canyon hosts ‘Beer League’ Whiffle Ball on Sunday evenings, which coincides with the community’s Farmers Market, games of bingo and programming for the entire family. In September, during The Rifleman, Pine Canyon’s men’s member-guest major, participants will enjoy The Yard for The Rifleman Home Run Derby and a field goal kicking contest on the football field.
“Pine Canyon members – both young and the young-at-heart – have really been enjoying The Yard since we unveiled it a few weeks ago,” said Pine Canyon Club General Manager Doug Sutter. “It’s awesome to see parents enjoying the fields with their kids and young members spontaneously organizing pickup Whiffle Ball games with their friends. Its moments like these, creating fond memories that makes Pine Canyon a special place.”
