There was something special about watching Rory McIlroy lift the trophy after an incredible come-from-behind win at the Scottish Open. The elation and sense of relief was tangible after the ball dropped on the 18th, and the win was deserved even if it was a heartbreak for the home Scottish favorite, who ended up a shot back after Rory bridied the final two holes.
The Northern Irishman has had a difficult few years on the Tour, and there was no better time for him to take a victory just days before the British Open returns to Royal Liverpool - when he last won The Open in 2014.
Everything seems to be coming together for the 34 year old, and the anticipation to see him end a nine-year major drought is palpable.
