(Ayrshire, Scotland) – When Darwin Escapes bought and invested £25 million in Dundonald Links four years ago, it envisioned a world-class golf resort with a critically acclaimed 18-hole championship golf course – a scintillating luxury hub for golfers and all discerning travellers.
Four years later, Dundonald Links is rewarding its owners by rapidly becoming known as the place to stay and play for golf trips to Western Scotland’s astoundingly good collection of golf courses on the Ayrshire coast.
Further, it is hosting the Women’s Scottish Open – an LPGA /LET co-sanctioned event – for the second year this week through Sunday. It is the event’s strongest field ever as 17 major winners boasting 26 major titles, 45 LPGA winners (with a combined 144 titles) and 59 LET winners (174 titles) assemble at the Ayrshire venue.
Fourth-ranked Lilia Vu is joined in competing for shares of the $2 million purse by Ruoning Yin (No 5), Allisen Corpuz (No 6), Minjee Lee (No 7), Kim Hyo Joo (No 8), Atthaya Thitikul (No 9) and Lin Xiyu (No 10).
Golf Channel is broadcasting live play starting at 8 am tomorrow and Saturday, and beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday in the U.S.
Dundonald Links has been one of Scotland’s most popular golf courses. The Kyle Phillips’ designed layout is known for its challenging bunkers and imaginative greens, earning a place among Ayrshire’s iconic, nearby courses. The resort hosted Final Qualifying for The Open Championship earlier this summer.
It is located close to a gaggle of iconic courses. As such, Dundonald Links created the Ultimate Ayrshire Golf Package, a stay-and-play offer that includes staying at the luxe venue and playing three stunningly fine links courses (check dundonaldlinks.com for details):
- Dundonald Links, home of an 18-hole championship course, won two Scottish Golf Tourism awards for its excellence earlier this year. It is again hosting the Women’s Scottish Open this week, testament to the elite quality of its layout, design, and conditions.
- Western Gailes, a “World Top 100 Course” (source: GOLF Magazine), that dates back over 125 years to 1897. Stretching to over 7,000 yards from the championship tees, the entire links lies adjacent to the sea.
- Prestwick, birthplace of the Open Championship more than 160 years ago with the original design authored by Old Tom Morris, it includes epic, world-famous holes such as Himalayas and Alps.
Dundonald Links resort guests can stay in either modern hotel rooms or a collection of luxurious, self-catering lodges, all just a wedge shot from the golf course and clubhouse. The Canny Crow restaurant and whisky room pay tribute to the resort’s heritage while maintaining a contemporary feel, crafting a one-of-a-kind golf venue that is only growing in reputation.
